Embossing

Embossing is most commonly used on pieces like pocket folders, business cards, stationery, promotional pieces and covers. It can be used by itself to create a blind emboss, or combined with printing or foil stamping to help make certain areas of the piece literally stand out.

How the Embossing Process Works

This emboss for a pocket folder was created with a single level die.

An emboss or deboss is produced through a combination of heat and pressure using an etched or sculpted die and counterdie to produce a relief in the stock that is either raised (embossed) or recessed (debossed) process in which paper is pressed into a relief using heat and pressure.

Depending on the desired outcome, budget and artwork being used, an emboss can be created through the use of either a simple, single level die or a more complex sculpted multi-level die.

The Right Paper Makes a Difference

Choosing the right weight and finish of the paper will influence the detail and depth we can achieve with an emboss or deboss. We recommend discussing your paper choices with us before purchasing it and having it printed, so we can review the project with you and possibly help avoid potential problems that might arise.
